When I grow up, I want to be a teacher. I am trying to learn everything, so that I can teach all the children at the camp everything they need to know.

Salma, 12 (Kutupalong Camp, Bangladesh)

Salma is a Rohingya refugee in Kutupalong Camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

Although Salma considers learning to be her main priority, there are currently not enough facilities to cater for the number of children in need of education to support their development. Humanitarian organisations have warned of a "lost generation" with more than 500,000 Rohingya children in Bangladesh unlikely to receive schooling in 2018.

When asked about her biggest concerns at the camp, Salma said she worried about privacy at public facilities and even in her tent, where there is no separate space for sleeping, bathing and changing clothes. The tents are often shared by different families and remain unlocked throughout the day.
